As highway 101, in the central coast, veers from the valley down to the sea, a rare treat awaits the traveler in the historic village of Arroyo Grande, California. This charming town recalls a slower, simpler time where wandering roosters and hens share the streets and sidewalks with tourists. Downtown, Farmers still sell their fresh produce and flowers every weekend along with local artists, entertainers and vendors. Arroyo Grande Village is beautifully restored, with a creek that runs through it. Visitors will enjoy a visit to the restored Santa Manuela Schoolhouse Museum just across the creek via the 170-foot swinging wooden bridge, the only one of its kind in California.

It was named a premier destination for Memorial Weekend by Sunset Magazine and is one of California's largest annual events.
