Welcome To Auburn Old Town, California

Auburn is lucky enough to have two distinct downtown commercial areas within its limits. Downtown Auburn is a quaint shopping and dining destination with many fine restaurants. The downtown is bookended by the Town's Clock Tower and PlacerArts, which showcases the area's thriving arts scene. In the center of town is an unusual Mission Style structure that dominates the skyline. Minutes away, at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Highway 49, lay Old Town Auburn – a throwback to the Gold Rush days. From the Courthouse light pole that served as a watering spot for horses in the 1800s to the oldest operating post office in the contiguous United States, visitors won’t just have to imagine history - they can experience it. Old Town Auburn is home to the famous Queen Anne style Firehouse, and the historic and grandiose three-story Classic Revival Courthouse that towers above the city. The Courthouse also houses a museum that displays Indian artifacts, a turn-of-the-Century Women's jail cell, and a collection of gold nuggets. When you've had your fill of history, amble over to the Auburn Ale House, Latitudes, or the Monkey Cat for a contemporary and delightful dining experience. As visitors partake of all that the city of Auburn has to offer, they shouldn't forget what nature's bounty brings. Nearby American River State Park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities like camping, hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, gold panning, and more. Spanning the river is the Foresthill Bridge which soars 730 feet above the north fork of the American River. It is the second highest bridge in California, and the third highest in the United States. Auburn is located in the historic Gold Country about 50 miles north of Sacramento. Lodging options include several comfortable hotels and motels, plus the enchanting Power's Mansion Bed and Breakfast.
