The historic Bernhard Museum was built in 1851 by George Bishop and John Long as a Traveler’s Rest Hotel, and is one of Auburn’s oldest surviving buildings. Set on 2.3 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, the Bernhard Museum Complex includes the Bernhard residence, wine storage building, wine processing building, and a barn. Today, the residence is a Victorian era house museum. The museum contains artifacts of winemaking, blacksmithing, and horse-drawn carriages.....

Auburn State Recreation Area 11 6 2010

In the heart of the gold country, the Auburn State Recreation Area covers 40 miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American river. Once containing thousands of gold miners, the area is now a nature area offering a wide variety of recreation opportunities to over 900,000 visitors a year. Uses include hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, camping, mountain biking, gold panning, horseback riding, and off-road motorcycle riding. Whitewater rafting is also very popular.....

Old Town Firehouse 11 6 2010

Standing tall in the center of Old Town, this historic structure was once home to the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department, before becoming one of Auburn's most famous structures. Organized in 1852, this is one of the oldest volunteer groups west of the Mississippi. A Queen Anne style influence can be seen in the use of patterned shingles of varied styles and colors. A steeply pitched roof rises above the second story to the bell tower, which still chimes at 8 a.m., 12 noon, and 5 p.m.

Auburn Courthouse 11 6 2010
Completed in 1898, the Courthouse is a grandiose three-story Classic Revival structure topped by a dome. The Placer County Museum is located on the first floor of Auburn’s Historic Courthouse. It's one of four surviving northern and central California courthouses which retain most of their architectural ornamentation and magnificent domes. The first floor originally housed the county jail, and is now home to the museum, which contains Native American artifacts, a stagecoach, & gold collection...

Foresthill Bridge 11 6 2010

The Foresthill Bridge which soars 730 feet above the north fork of the American River, is second the highest bridge in California, and the third highest in the United States. The bridge was constructed as a replacement for the old bridge, which would have been inundated when the dam and Auburn Reservoir was completed. The dam project has since been abandoned, leaving a bridge that is only 16 feet lower in height than the Golden Gate Bridge.
