Avila's Downtown Beach stretches for a 1/2 mile on either side of the pier. The beach features beautiful white sand and normally because of the gentle slope and the protective cove, usually produces small waves. It's just a few steps from town, so cold refreshments and snacks are always available.

Jutting out to sea 1,600+ from the middle of town is the Avila Beach Pier. Originally constructed in 1903, this is a public pier that is available for strolling and fishing. A fishing license is not required from either the Avila Pier or Harford Pier. The pier is home to the San Luis Yacht Club. It's unusual, but the bay is shared by three different piers. The Harford Pier and the California Polytechnic State University Pier are the others.

Point San Luis Lighthouse 11 6 2010

The Point San Luis Lighthouse Park enjoys dramatic vistas stretching from Avila to Vandenberg. Whales, Sea Lions and Otters are common visitors. PG&E provides a guided hike on the Pecho Coast Trail. Round trip to from the lighthouse is 3.5 miles. Pre-registration is required. Call 805-546-4904.

Nestled in the surrounding hills and on the bay, the resort includes a par 71, 6500-yard championship course. The front nine is situated within oak-lined valleys. The back nine transverses a tidal estuary. Golfers of all abilities will enjoy the challenge of this scenic course.

Avila Valley Barn is a favorite tourist stop on the way to Avila Beach. They offer the freshest, locally grown fruit and vegetables, plus tasty treats, fresh baked pies, bakery items and gifts. Bring the kids to visit the farm animals, go for a hay ride, and pick fresh produce. Avila Valley Barn is open from May through December and has much to offer throughout its season.

Patriot Sportfishing offers fishing charters for Rock cod, Salmon, Halibut, depending on the season. They also offer Whale watching excursions and Private Charters. Trips are every Saturday, when whales are in the area (December through April). Departure is at 10:00 am and round trips last for 2 1/2 hours. Call for reservations or more information.
