Cayucos State Beach is known for its fishing pier, beautiful sandy beach, watersports such as surfing, swimming, and tidepooling. The pier is lit for night fishing and a fishing license is not require while on the pier. Lifeguards are on duty during peak summer months. The beach also has a couple picnic tables, play equipment, restrooms, and outside showers

For ecotourists, Estero Bluffs State Park (just north of town) offers a look at rich and diverse natural habitat, including inter-tidal, estuarine salt marsh dunes, and grasslands. It is also home for otters and seals, and a number of endangered species such as the Snowy Plover.

The Whale Rock Reservoir is a 1350 acre reservoir created by the construction of a 193 foot tall earthen dam on Old Creek near Cayucos. It's located in the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, just a short drive inland from Cayucos at the end of Old Creek Road. The reservoir is a popular destination for hiking, fishing, bird watching, and just relaxing. Watercraft is not allowed, so you'll have to fish from the 2 miles of shoreline that is open to the public. Steelhead is the main draw for fishermen.

The small hamlet of Harmony is located 20 minutes north of Cayucos on Hwy 1. It is a tiny artist enclave, but it's most famous for its US Post Office, which has a thriving business of postmarking wedding invitations with its idyllic Harmony name. Visitors will enjoy wine tasting, arts and crafts, and taking photos of the town’s sign which boasts a population of 18.

The Cayucos Pier is a wonderful long pier open 24 hours a day. You can enjoy a great view of the surf and the surfers. Plenty of benches to enjoy the sunshine, bring your lunch and enjoy the view of the coastline and all the gulls watching you waiting for you to drop a morsel. If you are into fishing, you can fish day or night and better yet, when your fishing on the pier you don’t need a license. Watch the Polar Bear Dip Jan. 1st. each year and the 4th. of July fireworks are shot off the pier.
