Rollins Lake, with a surface area of 900 acres, and 26 miles of shoreline is located just a short distance from downtown. The lake is a great recreation area for sailing, water skiing, and trout fishing from boat or shore. Four campgrounds are available, and there are several inns and rental cabins scattered around the area. Lake access is available from Hwy 174 or Rollins Lake Road.

Colfax Museum 11 6 2010

For history buffs, the Colfax Museum houses some interesting train memorabilia and antiques, along with some surprises. It turns out that California's oldest pharmacy was originally established in Colfax in 1876 by the Wayland family. The museum features an extensive collection of the original bottles, medicines, elixirs, pharmaceuticals, and paraphernalia from this bygone era.

The Town of Dutch Flat 11 6 2010

The historic mining town of Dutch Flat is located a few miles up highway 80. It was first settled in 1851 by a group of German miners who used hydraulic mining to unearth an enormous amount of gold, but it also caused severe environmental destruction. The town is a well preserved example of early gold rush settlements. Amongst the oldest buildings are Odd Fellows Hall, Dutch Flat Hotel, and the Trading Post, which were all built in the 1850s.
