Fun Things To Do in Ferndale, CA

The Victorian Village of Ferndale. This charming town is a gateway to the Lost Coast, an area of Humboldt County long defined by its remoteness and isolation. A visit to Ferndale is an excursion to another time. The spectacular Redwoods of the Lost Coast are the oldest, tallest living things of our world. The Redwood groves, only five miles from the Village, are an area of mountain streams, trails and forests ideal for camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and sightseeing. There are five developed recreation sites in addition to several primitive camps. Five miles west of Ferndale, Centerville provides access to nine miles of ocean beach. Dairy farms back the wild beach to the north and steep cliffs are to the south. At this spectacular meeting place of land and sea, wildlife flourishes. The 110-acre Russ Park, a closed canopy sanctuary is considered among North America’s best in Audubon bird counts. Whale migration takes place along the coast from December through February, returning January through May. The Village of Ferndale itself evokes another era. It is a quaint, carefully restored Victorian-era hamlet. The village offers a wide variety of eateries and accommodations sure to please. Ferndale continues to host the finish line of the offbeat Kinetic Sculpture Race art event, as well as the Foggy Bottoms Milk Run and the Tour of the Unknown Coast bicycle run. Ferndale is located….
