The Lost Coast is a rugged section of California's north coast, sandwiched between the King Range and the Pacific Ocean. The steepness and remoteness made it too costly for state highway builders to construct routes through the area. So, the only way in are a few back roads and unpaved trails. Part of the King Range National Conservation Area, The Lost Coast covers 68,000 acres and extends 35 miles along the coastline between the mouth of the Mattole River and Sinkyone Wilderness State Park.
