Monterey Bay Aquarium

State: Town:

   Monterey Bay Aquarium
       886 Cannery Row  (831) 648-4800

The aquarium’s permanent exhibits and galleries highlight the colorful and complex array of marine life found on California’s central coast, from coastal wetlands to the open ocean and deep sea. Special exhibitions feature marine life from around the world. The four largest exhibits are the Outer Bay (1 million gallons); the Kelp Forest (335,000 gallons); Monterey Bay Habitats (326,000 gallons); and Sea Otters along the Rocky Coast (55,000 gallons). Our average visit is 2_-3 hours, but you can easily spend an entire day at the aquarium and still have more to see! The coastal areas of Monterey County average 57°F year-round. It is a good idea to dress in layers as temperature and wind conditions may vary throughout the day and it can get cool, even during the summer. You'll find fewer visitors between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. daily. During peak summer months, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the best days to visit. The Aquarium is now a Wi-Fi Hot Spot. For more information, please stop by our information desk. Avoid ticket lines and breeze on in—just buy your tickets online.
