Fun Things To Do in Pismo Beach, CA

Pismo Beach was once called the “Clam Capitol of California,” but that was only one of many good reasons to visit this great beach town. Twenty-three miles of wide beach with its famous dunes are the main attraction here at Pismo, California’s only drive-friendly beach, where ATVs tackle 100-foot dunes. Other parts of the coast here are dramatic and rugged, making for great exploring of tidal pools and isolated coves. The Pismo Pier is a great place for fishing and surf watching. The pier is a user friendly and fun facility, with no need for a fishing license and plenty of parking nearby. It’s close to downtown and provides a great view of the coast as well as entertainment and good snacking. The heyday of the clam has passed but is not forgotten. The Annual Clam Festival, featuring a chowder cook-off, begins with a parade in the morning and continues with an afternoon festival featuring hundreds of vendors offering snacks, games and crafts. Beginning in October, the Monterey Pines and Eucalyptus groves here are visited by tens of thousands of migrating Monarch butterflies. Their colorful, elegant wings appear as leaves in the trees. Docents at the grove are happy to share their knowledge of the Monarch with their many delighted guests. In addition to the Monarchs, Pismo Beach is host to The Pismo Beach Classic, where 1,000 classic cars and rods draw 125,000 spectators over three days. Pismo Beach is located on the Pacific Coast south of Cambria and Morrow Bay. Nearby points of interest include... Check out our Map for location and driving directions.
