Constructed in 1935, the Tower Bridge is a two level Swing Truss bridge, the first of its kind in the California Highway System. It replaced the previous steel swing design. The unique design of the Tower Bridge has become an icon of Sacramento, along with other famous landmarks such as the Capitol building. The bridge is recognized as a architectural treasure by the National Register of Historic Places.
