The California State Capitol is located at the west end of Capitol Park. The grounds are framed by L Street to the north, N Street to the south, 10th Street to the west and 15th Street to the east. The legislature set aside $500,000 in 1860 to build the capitol. When it was finally finished in 1874, the final cost was about $2.45 million. In 1854, the state legislature finally settled on Sacramento as the location for the state’s capitol.
