In the middle of San Francisco Bay sits Angel Island State Park, offering hiking, exploring, beachcombing, and spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, and the Marin Headlands. The island is also alive with history, first as a hunting site for Coastal Miwok Indians. From 1910 to 1940, hundreds of thousands of Chinese immigrants were processed. During World War II, Japanese and German POWs were imprisoned. In the '50s and '60s, the island was home to a Nike missile base.
