More than a memorial to the Donner Party, the park offers camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, water-skiing, and hiking. In winter months, visitors can cross-country ski and snowshoe on trails. The Emigrant Trail Museum commemorates local Native Americans, settlers who emigrated from the east coast in the mid-1800's, as well as the Donner Party, who were trapped by the winter of 1846, resulting in human suffering, survival, and cannibalism.
