Built during the Depression, thousands of men and their families moved to Black Canyon to work on the project and tame the mighty Colorado River. Hoover Dam is a National Historic Landmark and has been rated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders. Tours through the Hoover Dam and the Powerplant have been conducted since 1937. Today, close to 1,000,000 visitors a year take the tour and millions more drive across the dam.
